About Us
Dark Matter was conceived as a platform and a space for Black folks in the sciences to be able to discuss and reflect upon their experiences. Founded in the Spring of 2020, Dark Matter began as the brainchild of three old high school friends from rural Southwest Georgia. While they each left their hometown to pursue their education and later careers in STEM, they never fell out of touch, united in their shared experience as Black men navigating the predominantly white culture of STEM fields in America. One commonality of the Black experience in STEM settings is the isolation that comes with being the "only" in the room. While we all love to write, and we all have plenty of opinions to share, we hope that Dark Matter can become more than a blogging platform, but a community space for Black people in the sciences to support each other, advocate for issues we care about, and bring about meaningful change.
